EDUCATION PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Schooling in uganda

Education is essential for all children, but even more so for our kids who have so many challenges to overcome. Knowledge empowers these children to break the cycle of ignorance and poverty, helps them find their interests, discover their voices, and gain self-confidence. An education gives them a chance to be successful in a difficult world.

Uganda has mainly four levels of education: Nursery education (this has children of 3-5 years of age and is studied for two years), primary education (this has children of 6-13 years of age and is studied for seven years), secondary education (this has two levels ie. ordinary level (takes four years) and advanced level (takes two years)), Tertiary level (this includes higher institutions of learning like bussiness institutions, vocational schools, universities, medical schools etc.)

EDUCATE BRASS FOUNDATION's goal is to support children in nusery, primary, and secondar education. Since education after secondary is most expensive and takes three (3) and more years, Unless the sponsor is able and willing to continue supporting a student at university level, we prefer our students/ beneficiaries to join vocational and bussines institutes which takes a period of two years with an award of a certificate or a diploma. This avails them with sustainable skills of which they can even employ them selves.

Sponsor a child

Many parents cannot afford to eat and educate their children so they end up suffering. Unfortunately, this can also lead to other dangers as children are not in school during the day and can be left to look after themselves while parents are away at work. In a country where child trafficking, child abuse and child sacrifice still exist, it is easy to see why a parent would rather let their child grow up in residential care. Sometimes, being able to offer financial support for school fees will relieve the burden and enable the family to stay together. It can provide hope to the parents, and give them an opportunity to get their heads above the water.

EDUCATE BRASS FOUNDATION has a well-planned strategy of involvement. Our staff makes frequent school visits to monitor and evaluate children's class performance, their conduct, participation in extracurricular activities, and to listen to assessments by the class teachers. The costs of evaluation and monitoring are included in the sponsorship fee.

For the girl child, we have become more aware of issues facing teenage girls. Due to the cost of sanitary-wear, girls will miss school one week out of every four, or miss school completely as the family would rather pay for a boy to be educated four weeks out of four. As part of our "Keeping Girls in School" project, we look forward to provide reusable sanitary-wear, and menstrual education for girls within the local community, helping to keep them safe, and keep them in school. On the other side also, there is a feeling of not fitting in community, which increases stress and at the end burn out.

CHOOSE A CHILD FOR SPONSORSHIP

All children are worthy of an education. Individual student scholarships change lives. Even though our students come from difficult backgrounds, they share a common dream of finishing school and doing something better with their lives. Every dollar counts in helping us make tuition, uniforms, and textbooks affordable to our studies and their families. We recommend that you sponsor a child until they finish Primary or Secondary schooling, if possible even university or vocational (if the sponsor is not able to sponsor a child upto university, we have a general fund catering for these students tution at university for a bachelors or diploma). Visit the link below to select a child!

Choose a child to sponsor

The longer the sponsorship, the better it is for the child. Knowing that they are supported, ensures that they can stay in school. It also gives both the sponsor, and the sponsored child more time to get to know each other and to build a meaningful relationship. For those of you who don't have the time to look through the numerous students list, If you are unable to sponsor a child for at least a full year of schooling, we also have a general education fund that allows us to send unsponsored children to school. We also encourage group sponsorships. Companies, friends and families, and schools may join together to sponsor children and different projects (talents and community development), but there should be one correspondent who will be in charge of all communications with EDUCATE BRASS FOUNDATION.

For interaction between the sponsor and the sponsored student, we give the student a welcome package including a letter introducing his/ her donor who have helped sponsor him or her, as well as all the aggregated messages that donors send to him or her, to show our students that there are so many people across the globe who truly care and believe in them..

Through our inbox system, we notify sponsors that his or her sponsored student is fully-funded, with letters from the sponsored student and how the money is being spent. Through this unique feature, you have the opportunity to communicate and interact with the causes that you support. A sponsor if possible can also organise a visit to his/ her sponsored student, which gives a sponsor and the sponsored student a new experience.
