I tell you this story, not just as Mutyaba Emmanuel, but as living proof of what music can do. After finishing primary school, my dreams of further education almost ended because my family could not afford the fees. My mother sold fruit to keep us going, my father tilled a small piece of land, and I fetched water on my father's old bicycle just to survive.
Everything changed when a former teacher introduced me to a music instructor who offered me a chance: “If you can learn an instrument, I might be able to get you a scholarship.” I picked up a trombone and practiced from morning till evening every day for a month. In the end, I was given a full scholarship, and from that moment, I have never paid a single coin for my education.
🎺 Music gave me hope when there was none.
🎺 Music gave me an education when poverty said no.
🎺 Music gave me a future.
I now have a bachelors of science in project planning and management.
That's why I founded Educate Brass Foundation, to give underserved children in rural Uganda the same opportunity I had. We use music education, cultural preservation, and mentorship to equip them not only with musical skills but with confidence, teamwork, and a vision for their future.
Working with young people and integration of music into rural life resonates strongly with me. I would be honored to exchange ideas on how we can continue to use music to open doors for the next generation.
